OKA at The Carleton July 31st

I’m stoked to announce that I’ll be opening for Aussie band OKA at The Carleton in Halifax on July 31st! This show has become something of an annual tradition for them, and I’m really excited to be on board for this one!

I’ll be kicking off the night with a live set of original deep/downtempo bassy stuff, and will have keyboardist James Spray (UFO) and guitarist Phyl La Ferrierer (Landing Sound) on board for a few songs.

The Deep End @ The Board Room Game Cafe

I’m really excited to announce the new day, time and venue for The Deep End: the second Wednesday of every month from 8-11 PM at The Board Room Game Cafe, starting Wednesday April 9th!

Anyone who’s ever talked to me about these shows knows that I’ve wanted to combine chill/deep electronic music with board games since pretty much day one but there simply hasn’t been a suitable venue in Halifax, until now…

For those who don’t know, The Board Room is a LICENSED board game cafe on Barrington St. with over 400 (!) games. In addition to a bar and a cafe they also have a kitchen.

As always my goal is to create a very low-key and INCLUSIVE environment, so don’t be afraid to bring people who you might not normally think to bring to a “show”: co-workers, family, etc.

(BTW, fear not, they have *3* copies of The Settlers of Catan plus expansions… phew!)

Snug live at Baseline (January)

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of playing Baseline, Halifax’s big house music night. It was the opening set–10 PM to 12 AM–and as you’ll hear I had lots of fun meandering between deep and tech.

As always they recorded the set live using a room mic next to the speakers. Truth be told this is one of the longer sets I’ve played in a while–especially in Halifax, where the average set time seems to be about 8 minutes–and I’m really grateful to the Baseline crew for recording it.

I had a blast playing, and I hope you enjoy listening! (It’s also downloadable as 320 Kbps if you prefer that to streaming)

December mini-tour

Just a quick note to let ya’ll know that I’ll be making the trek from Halifax to Ottawa in December, stopping in Fredericton along the way:

I’m especially stoked on the Soulselecta show. For those who don’t know, Soulsecta was an “anything goes” (musically speaking) night that ran at Brixton’s for years. After a bit a hiatus they’re back again at their new home. This will be the second one since they’ve started back up, and I’m honoured to be a part of it (also really excited to see this “Mugshots” place)

Arcadia Sound heads west

Well… somewhat west, anyway. We’ll be doing shows in Montreal and Ottawa next week/weekend. Here are the details for those:

  • Thursday May 3th: Montreal @ Piranha Bar w/ Snug, Velvet Glacier & Jacqueline Dumont (Facebook event
  • Saturday May 5th: Ottawa @ Dekcuf w/ Snug, Trees & Haze vs. Fiver (Facebook event

We’ll be debuting some new music as well as a new light show synchronized with our set (assuming my laptop doesn’t explode due to the sheer amount of awesomeness involved).

I’ll also be dropping a Snug DJ set on CHUO.FM Friday night (overnight) so be sure to tune in for that if you happen to be awake.

ECMA electronic no-case showcase

If you’re in the Moncton area for the ECMAs this week swing by the Aberdeen Cultural centre Thursday night for an urban/electronic no-case showcase. I’ll be dropping a couple Snug tunes (live), with James Spray on keys, and then we’ll be switching modes and performing a few Arcadia Sound tunes. Should be a time!

Head on over to the Facebook event page for more info or to toggle your attendance.

Thursday Throwback – October 20, 2011

I’m playing a Beardsley (live techno) set tonight so of course that means a dirty synthy techno throwback! This one bring me all the way back to 1999, and a now infamous venue just outside of Gatineau/Hull – Auberge des Rapides was the name if I’m not mistaken.

UK DJ Chris Liberator, one of the founders of the classic techno label Stay Up Forever, was headlining a two room party there. I remember walking upstairs at the peak of the party right in the middle of the breakdown. Hearing this massive track on a massive system is an experience on its own, but hearing it at peak time with everyone flipping out just takes it the next level. This is definitely one of a few rave memories that will remain vividly etched in my mind, and one that inspired me to put on shows, produce, DJ/perform, etc.
